247 years ago today, the Continental Congress (56 men) met and wrote out their grievances to the King of Great Britain and Declared their Independence. The Revolutionary war had started the previous year. We celebrate today to honor when we officially declared we wanted our freedom from a tyrannical King. We wouldn’t get that until 1783.
Sadly, we are living in a time where many Americans don’t even know why we celebrate the 4th of July. I’m fortunate to live in a community that understands the significance of today. I went with my son’s family to the parade in Parowan today. It was a fun time to be with family and see the floats and people dressed to celebrate. My 5 year old granddaughter asked her dad (my son) what Independence Day was. His response made me so proud. “It is the day we celebrate when the rebels and treasoners told a tyrant we are free people and if anyone says you’re a rebel or treasoner, they are a tyrant.” We are responsible for raising the next generation of Patriots. Let’s “Keep the Republic” so they will know what freedom is.
Happy Independence Day! Let Freedom Reign!
Apparently my website is on the wrong time zone. I’ll have that fixed. It was posted on the 4th of July.
